Halloween Safety Tips & Tricks

Above all we need to make sure our children are having a safe fun time this Halloween, so we have listed some of the best Tips & Tricks to keep your kids safe. After extensive studies, we have found that a few helpful tips and tricks can pay off in the end. Mostly just having common sense will take care of a lot of Halloween Safety, but if there is a special trick to it, we've found out and posted it here.

The Planning:
Plan costumes that are bright and reflective. Make sure that shoes fit well and that costumes are short enough to prevent tripping, entanglement or contact with flame. Consider adding reflective tape to costumes and bags for added visibility.
Pin emergency identification (name, address, phone number, any special medical condition) to the inside of a pocket or someplace discreet.
Consider using non-toxic and hypoallergenic makeup in the place of a mask, as a mask can limit eyesight.

The Route:

Its a good idea to have your kids eat a good meal prior to trick-or-treating as it will discourage them from eating their candy before you can inspect it.
Know and plan the route your children are going to take.
If possible go with them OR get a responsible teenager to accompany them.
NEVER LET THEM GO ALONE
Make sure that whoever is "escorting" your children carries a mobile phone, or coins to make emergency phone calls.
Give them a time frame and ask them to check back as soon as they have finished the round.
Explain 'Stranger Danger' and not to talk to people they do not know.
Road safety and being aware of moving cars.
Tell them not to get into any car .
Don't cut across fields, alleys, gardens or paths that aren't on your plan.
Carry a flashlight with new batteries.
Explain that they are NOT to go into any house.
Have your children trick-or-treat in large groups, and make sure to stay in that group.

After Trick-or-Treating
Wait until children are home before sorting and checking treats. In a well lit area closely examine all treats and throw away and items that look like they've been re-wrapped, have a pin hole in the wrapper, or anything that looks suspicious. Remember "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", if you have any doubts about anything throw it away. Its not worth the chance.
Try to portion out your child's candy to a reasonable amount, we wouldn't want your children getting sick from eating too much at a time.

Have a safe, fun Halloween!
