Comic-Con International started out showcasing comic books, science
fiction, fantasy, film and television. The convention has now
expanded over the years into a larger range of pop culture elements
and has become the largest convention in the Western Hemisphere and
the second largest in the World. In 2009, there was nearly 140,000
attendees!
Plans are already underway for the 41st annual Comic-Con
International San Diego. Comic-Con 2010 has already seen
unprecedented interest with the four-day memberships selling out in
November of 2009. There is a large line-up of special guests for
2010. The new guests include Gabrielle Bell (the writer/artist for
Lucky , Cecil and Jordan in New York), Felicia Day (actor/writer,
The Guild) and Kathryn Immonen (Writer, Runaways, Patsy Walker:
Hellcat). The full lineup of special guests for Comic-Con
International is an incredibly diverse one, consisting of some of
the hottest creators in the world of comics - ranging from the
mainstream to the alternative, international, and syndicated
branches of the industry. You'll also find Golden and Silver Age
creators, sci-fi / fantasy writers and artists, and longtime
Comic-Con friends.
Programs at Comic-Con 2010 will include major comics publisher
presentations, "Spotlight" panels that feature all attending special
guests and the greatest number of events geared toward the entire
spectrum of comics of any convention. And Comic-Con keeps on rockin'
after the Exhibit Hall closes at 7:00 each evening! Programming,
anime, gaming, film screenings, and other events continue well into
the night, with several big events planned for the weekend. On
Thursday night, it's the return of the Star Wars Fan Film Awards; on
Friday night, it's the comic book industry's version of the Oscars:
the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards; and on Saturday night, it's
the gala Comic-Con Masquerade. The Comic-Con Masquerade Ball
returning to the Ballroom 20 on Saturday evening! 2009 was full of
beautiful masquerade costumes, cloaks and masks. 2010 is sure to
surpass our expectations in costumes and events!
